Entrepreneurial Quote of the Day:
“We need to go beyond a cure. We need to stop people from ever getting breast cancer in the first place.” –Dr. Susan Love
Army of Women
Hello Fabulous Women!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
In this busy, family-filled time of year, I want to share something very important with all of you, something an old friend recently shared with me.
I’m sure that many, perhaps all of you have either known someone with breast cancer or have battled this disease yourself. I lost a dear friend to breast cancer several years ago. I’m excited to have an opportunity to contribute to an important research project which may truly help us to end this disease.
Dr. Susan Love is one of the leading researchers on breast cancer in women. Her research foundation and commitment to women’s health have impacted the lives of thousands of women and their families. She has created a huge research effort aptly called the Army of Women in order to recruit 1 million female volunteers 18 or over. Your current state of health is not important. The point is to have available a huge pool of women of all ages, from many geographical areas, whose health she can study. It makes so much sense, doesn’t it? There are clearly many different causes and factors related to breast cancer, so the larger and more varied the research pool, the more easily commonalities and relevant risks can be identified.
I just joined, and I am inviting you to do the same and to spread the word. To give you an idea of what you can expect, my friend who joined in October has received two invitations to join in studies, neither of which did she qualify for. Obviously, if you don’t qualify you don’t participate in that study. And if you do qualify but the timing is wrong or the study involves something you aren’t comfortable with, you can decline to be in that particular study.
The immediate goal is to reach 500,000 volunteers by the end of 2008, so won’t you join us, and invite other women to do the same? For those of you who also have blogs, please consider sharing this with your readers, and invite them to do the same. Here is the link to the website where you can sign up. Army of Women
Have a wonderful, healthy and happy Thanksgiving!
–Ann
